Wie ihr sicher schon gelesen habt, hat sich Kevin W. Edwards im Forum angemeldet. Er ersuchte mich per PN um Hilfe zur Erlangung weiterer Infos zu betreffenden Abschuss/Absturz, ebenso in seinen zwischenzeitlich erstellten Forums-Beiträgen.
Ich habe dazu leider keine Infos bzw. Unterlagen, vielleicht könnt ihr ->

During my ordeal, the fate of the other eight crew members were unknown. I was told by the Germans, Austrian guards, French Resistance, and others that all other crew members perished.
Only much later, did I learn that three other crew members did survive and were held captive.
The three members also captured were:
Lieutenant David Reeher Co-Pilot
Lieutenant Kern McIlhenny Bombardier
Sgt. Doyle Mayo Radio Operator-Waist Gunner
The remaining five crew members were killed in action:
Lieutenant William Herman Pilot
S/Sgt. Earl Eiberger Flight Engineer-Waist Gunner
Sgt. Robert Canterbury Tail Turret Gunner
Sgt. Billy Irwin Nose Turret Gunner

On March 22,1945, there was a 2nd B24 Liberator bomber shot down over Vienna during the same raid to bomb the Heligenstadt Marshalling Yards.This was B24L bomber serial number #44-49566-call letter Yellow "X" from the 782nd squadron.This plane carried a 12 man crew.Ten were captured and held as prisoners of war until they were liberated by the Russians. Lt Osborn and Sgt Galbraith were held in a Vienna Miliatary hospital. Lt Maas and TSgt Alden were KIA.The plane was hit by flak in the #3 engine and on fire but did not explode but went into a gentle diving turn to the right.

Nehme an, er kann die noch bestehenden Verwirrungen zu dem Geschehen am 22.3.45 am besten klären bzw. werde ich dann gerne aus allen gesammelten, zusammengerafften und ergoogelten Unterlagen einen stimmigen und belegbaren Text verfassen.
Das bin ich ihm wohl schuldig, nachdem ich über 30 Jahre lang ein paar materielle Reste des Absturzes aufbewahrt habe, nur mit einer unklaren Ahnung, welche Schicksale damit verbunden waren....

Ein Schriftstück der LS-Polizei gibt für diesen Tag folgende Tote Flieger an:
Wien 12. Rauchgasse 1 Mann
Wien 19. Peter Jordan-Straße (wahrscheinlich ist hier das Luftwaffenlazarett Wien gemeint) 5 Unbekannte.
Hilft auch nicht viel weiter, da sich diese Angaben auf den Gau Groß-Wien beziehen, müßten die beiden Abstürze in Niederösterreich zusammen 11 Tote gehabt haben. Wobei zu berücksichtigen ist, dass infolge der Brandeinwirkung bei vielen Abstürzen ein oder mehrere Besatzungsmitglieder spurlos verbrannt sind.
So bleibt alles nur ein Mosaik.
Die Statistik der 15th AAF gibt für den Angriff auf die Bahnanlagen von Heiligenstadt 4 Totalverluste und 2 vermisste Flugzeuge (alles viermotorige Bomber) an.

5. Vienna/Heiligenstadt Marshalling Yard:
162 B-24´s with escort of 29 P-38´s were dispatched from 55 Bomb Wing and 305 Fighter Wing.
143 B-24´s dropped 270.5 tons (5410 x 100 lb. GP bombs) between 1146/1153 hours from 21,500/25,000 feet. Target was attacked visually by aircraft of 460, 464 and 465 Bomb Groups and by a combination of visual and PFF method by 485 Bomb Group. 19 B-24´s were ineffective.
Results: Post raid recon photos show sidings temporarly blocked by 15/20 hits. Damaged warehouse further damaged. 15 units of rolling stock destroyed.
Escort: 26 P-38´s of 1 Fighter Group providet PTW escort. 3 P-38`s were ineffective.
Opposition: Intensive Accurate Heavy (IAH) Flak and effective smoke screen at target. 3 Unindentified Single Engine Fighter were seen taking from LJUBLJANA Airdrom and 4 Unind. Aircraft seen East of Zagreb. No encounters.
